Community Savings Bank recently participated in the American Banker’s Association national program designed to Teach Children to Save. Community employees visited two local schools to teach children the importance of saving. At Laughlin Falconer elementary school, Marisol Gaytan and Omaira Guevara spoke to over 240 kids in nine 2nd grade classrooms. At St. Bartholomew school, Omaira, Marisol and Aetna Konopka taught over 100 kids in the 5th through 8th grades.

The topic children learned about: Why is it important to save money? An important part of the message was explaining the difference between a person’s financial “needs” and “wants.” Children were also told what a savings account is and why to have one. Each kid received a goodie bag with an activity book, piggy bank, coins savers and information for their parents about the bank’s Junior Savings Account.
