Senator Tony Munoz (D-Chicago) is sponsoring legislation that will establish an Asian American Employment Plan for Illinois. This is similar to the Hispanic and African American Employment Plans already in place throughout state government.
“Asian Americans make up nearly five percent of Illinois’ population, but only about two and a half percent of state employees,” said Senator Munoz, a member of the Senate Executive Committee. “This legislation will help to encourage more equity in state hiring and help improve services for Illinois’ growing Asian American communities.”
House Bill 4510 will establish and implement an Asian American Employment Plan throughout state government to provide fair representation and services. This measure will help ensure that cultural and linguistic services are available to Asian Americans. This plan will require each agency in the state to collect and report annually to the Department of Human Rights on Asian American recruitment, hiring, retention, and promotion.
