One of Brazil’s visionary artists, Denise Milan invites viewers on an exhilarating journey to her country through an exhibition of sculpture and photo-collage that celebrates the natural wonder of Brazil’s jungles, ocean and desert regions, and the vibrancy of its multifaceted culture.
Denise Milan: Mist of the Earth, presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, opens Friday, June 8 with a public opening reception in the Chicago Rooms at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St., from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. The exhibition will remain open through January 6, 2013 in the Chicago Rooms gallery, located on the northeast side of the building on the second floor.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Denise Milan is a multidisciplinary artist who works in sculpture, photo-collage, and other media. One of the leaders for the Public Art movement in Brazil, Milan has exhibited her work in a great range of institutions at São Paulo, Belém, Brasília, Chapingo, Chicago, Hakone, Hannover, London, New York, Osaka, Paris, Salvador, Taiwan and Washington.
