The Gary Johnson Alternative
By: Daniel Nardini
Not many people may be aware of this, but there will be a third person for President of the United States on the ballot in all 50 states this coming November. He is Gary Johnson—the Libertarian candidate for president. In a race where the other two candidates may not look so hot to many Americans, Johnson is beginning to be seen as a third and real alternative. And Johnson has some pretty credible political mileage on him. The 29th Governor of New Mexico, Johnson helped to cut the state’s spiraling debt as well as cut the government bureaucracy and help set the state on its course to economic prosperity (work continued by his successor Bill Richardson). In fact, he had left the state with a $1 billion surplus that has helped New Mexico when many other states have and are still drowning in debt.
But what Gary Johnson wants to do is even more ambitious—unite this country and help save it. If he is elected he will get us out of costly wars that serve no purpose to our national security. He will take what money is being spent to fight wars and put it into constructing our decaying roads, sidewalks, bridges, schools, hospitals and railroads. He will work to not only reduce but eliminate the national debt before this time bomb explodes and forces our economy to collapse. He will work to cut the size of government in order for the government to function more efficiently and save the country money. But above all else he will will work to protect and restore the civil liberties guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. It may all sound like a lot to many of us who have been sweet-talked by politicians from the Democrat and Republican parties, but I should mention that as a former Republican Gary Johnson has a track record of having worked as much against his fellow Republicans as well as Democrats to make New Mexico a more prosperous and better state. Above all else his track record shows he believes in among other things fairness.
Gary Johnson interestingly enough is calling upon people from the Tea Party, the Green Party, and even the Democratic and Republican parties to vote for him in an endeavor to save the nation. What makes Johnson unique is that he is calling for all of us to put aside our political and ideological differences and vote to try and save the ship that is America before it hits the iceberg and we all go down with it. In that respect he is truly providing a real alternative to Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. He has my vote.
