Luis Arroyo, Jr. Slated as Democratic Candidate for Cook County Commissioner¬8th District

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - BusinessIn a rare move on Monday, the Cook County Democratic Party slated Luis Arroyo, Jr. as their pick for Cook County Commissioner in the 8th District over incumbent Commissioner Edwin Reyes.  The Committee unanimously voted to add Arroyo to the Democratic Party slate for the March 2014 primary election.  Arroyo, a community activist and lifelong 8th District resident, said he is challenging Reyes because the community is dissatisfied with Reyes’ complacency and failure to effectively address challenges facing the area.  Arroyo serves as chairman and cofounder of the Illinois Council for the Advancement of Latino Leadership, which works to cultivate leadership skills and networks among young Latinos. Arroyo has also been inspired by the work of his father, Illinois State Rep. Luis Arroyo, Sr.  “I have always been inspired to do things that will help move our community forward. Today I see our youth faced with danger just going to school and our seniors struggling to get affordable health care, these matters require a full-time commissioner in Cook County,” Arroyo said.  Reyes did not attend the slating session.  For more information on the Arroyo campaign, please visit www.luis2014.com.
