More than 3,400 participants came out for the 5K/10K “Run on the Runway,” kids race and community day festival at O’Hare International Airport hosted by the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and United Airlines.
The runners and walkers route was new Runway 10C-28C, constructed as part of the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP) on O’Hare’s south airfield. A United Airlines aircraft on display along the course provided great photo opportunities for participants and community day visitors during and after the race.
Proceeds from the event benefitted the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
The races drew nearly 3,400 participants, with more than 650 runners and walkers in the 10K run; nearly 2,500 in the 5K race and almost 200 children for the kids race.
The overall winners in the 10K run were Jacqui Giuliano (Women’s Division) and Ryan Giuliano (Men’s Division). In the 5K run, the overall winners were Kasey Gibson (Women’s Division) and Samuel Vazquez (Men’s Division). Vazquez also won the same title in the 2012 5K Run at O’Hare.
