Sixty years after the historic Brown vs. Board of Education decision, Chicago’s schools are still separate and unequal. Through the end of May 17th, cities across the nation will commemorate the broken promises of Brown vs. Board, that black and brown students would receive an equitable education. Join parents, students, community members, labor and faith leaders as we organize to win the schools that all of Chicago’s students deserve.
On Saturday, May 17th, the Chicago Teachers Union will hold a rally at Nathaniel Pope Elementary School followed by community outreach in nearby neighborhoods. Chicago Teachers Union members welcome all residents to join to talk about how to make education a priority. The rally will take place on Saturday, May 17th from 10a.m. to 11a.m., at Nathaniel Pope Elementary, 1852 S. Albany Ave. The community outreach is from noon to 2p.m. For more information or to register, contact Jaribu Lee of the Kenwood-Oakland Community Organization at 773-548-7500.
