The FIFA World Cup 2014 showcased the global passion fans have for soccer, especially when soccer legends like Lionel Messi entered the stadium. Now that world cup fever ended, Nat Geo Mundo is devoting a special one-hour documentary highlighting Soccer and Argentina. What many may not know is that in Argentina young boys from remote cities grow up dreaming of one day being like Messi, to play for their country and to be a professional footballer. Unfortunately, the majority of these youngsters will face the odds of reality as they leave their families behind to chase this dream.
Filmed in Argentina, QUIERO SER UN 10 explores soccer from the point of view of those who fail, those who don’t make it, those whose dream of a lifetime—to be “Messi”— never really came true. It’s the story of the people who, paradoxically, are the vast majority of those who try to make it in the world of soccer. QUIERO SER UN 10 is the latest work of Argentinean journalist, writer and documentary director Hernán Zin. QUIERO SER UN 10 premieres on August 2nd on Nat Geo Mundo.
