In partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Morgan Stanley kicked off Healthy Kids Markets at two Chicago Public Schools on Sept. 25 and 26 as part of the Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities program which launched here in June.
The new Healthy Kids Markets are a central component of the campaign’s Chicago initiative. Weekly, the Markets will bring fresh fruits and vegetables and shelf-stable foods to children and their families at Calmeca Academy in Brighton Park and Lloyd Elementary in Belmont Cragin.
In partnership with other local non-profits, including Chicago Run, the Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion (CPHP) and the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center, Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities will also deliver health and wellness education, nutrition programming, cooking demonstrations and physical fitness programs at the two schools in coordination with the Markets.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository provides the schools with fruits, vegetables and nutritious items that pantry-goers can select based on their family’s particular needs. In addition to the food pantries, the University of Illinois Chicago’s (UIC) Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion (CPHP) administers a Cooking Matters curriculum for Calmeca and Lloyd families.
As part of the Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities initiative, families can receive medical care through the pediatric mobile medical unit of the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center. Health services will be conducted via a 13-ton, 40-foot mobile health clinic staffed by Loyola doctors and nurses.
