On Sunday, Sept. 13, daring men and women will rappel theWit Hotel as part of Respiratory Health Association’s semi-annual Skyline Plunge! Chicago. Stepping over the edge 278 feet above the intersection of State and Lake Streets, participants will rappel to raise lung health awareness and more than $65,000 for local lung disease research and programs. Each Skyline Plunge! participant commits to a fundraising goal of $1,000 or more to support his or her rappel More than two-thirds of those participating have been affected by lung disease personally or know someone affected by lung disease.
Spectators may view the event Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interviews with participants are encouraged and can be coordinated in advance or on-site. The event is hosted twice a year both in the spring and the fall. Registration for spring 2016 Skyline Plunge! Chicago will be launched in mid-September. Respiratory Health Association’s work in Chicagoland includes funding lung cancer research at local institutions, teaching children with asthma how to manage their illness and hosting an annual conference for people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
