On Tuesday, November 10, Google.org surprised two teachers at Lane Tech High School in Chicago with funding through the Google Impact Challenge: Disabilities for their innovative project to enhance opportunities for students with special needs. In addition, Google.org announced that it will flash-fund roughly $100,000 for all special education projects through DonorsChoose.org throughout Cook County. This is part of Google’s philanthropic efforts to expand opportunity and independence for people living with disabilities, including 6.4M special education students in the US public education system. At a surprise school assembly Tuesday, Google.org, in coordination with Lane Tech High School and Alderman Ameya Pawar (47th Ward), awarded Javier Payano, with assistance from Mark Carrera and Paul Carrera, at Lane Tech with funds to fully support Inclusion Class Blast through DonorsChoose.org. Their project aims to purchase musical instruments and materials for an inclusive musical class.
