Saint Anthony Hospital in partnership with the International Emergency Management Committee (TEMC) is hosting 22 physicians from prestigious universities and hospitals across China. Over the course of their three-month visit at the hospital, the physicians will further learn and observe how to provide high quality health care services at the community level. The Chinese physicians come from a variety of specialties such as obstetrics, pediatrics and surgery, and are eager to learn more about the medical services and processes at Saint Anthony Hospital.
“In China, we have a tiered medical system, so community care is lacking,” said Dr. Sam He, a pediatrician and neonatologist and one of the 22 visiting physicians from China. “We came to Saint Anthony Hospital to improve our capabilities at the community level for our people, and the medical system here in the U.S. is better and far more developed than ours. Saint Anthony Hospital is very advanced for a community hospital, much like university hospitals and our tier-one hospitals, which provide the highest level of care. I look forward to learning more about integrated care management in Saint Anthony Hospital’s community setting over the course of our time here.”
Saint Anthony Hospital is the first Chicago hospital to have this program in collaboration with TEMC, along with other nationally recognized medical schools and hospitals, including John Hopkins Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Cornell University’s Weill Cornell Medical College. The partnership was commemorated with a formal signing of the contract. “Saint Anthony Hospital is honored that the International Emergency Management Committee has chosen our community hospital to further learn and observe how we provide quality community care to our patients,” said Guy A. Medaglia, Saint Anthony Hospital President and CEO. “Our medical staff looks forward to collaborating with the Chinese physicians to learn more about how their medical system works in comparison to here in the U.S., but especially within more disadvantaged communities like some of the ones Saint Anthony Hospital serves.”
