Spanish Applications Now Open for After School Matters Internship Programs

After School Matters® is now accepting teen applications for its Fall program session. More than 350 programs in the arts, communications, science, sports and technology will be offered beginning the week of September 26 at more than 60 Chicago public high schools, as well as Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Library and community organization locations throughout the city, and downtown at the Gallery 37 Center for the Arts. Teens can search and apply for Fall programs online at afterschoolmatters.org. Beginning with the Fall 2016 program session, the online application will be available entirely in Spanish. A few of the exciting programs offered throughout the city this fall include:

PJ Green Technology and Engineering – Science

Location: Mujeres Latinas en Accion, Lower West Side

Working individually and in teams, teens will design, build, and program their own engineering projects. Throughout the fall teens will explore electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, and robotics. Teens will develop leadership and professional skills to prepare them for careers in the STEM fields.

The Art of Boxing – Sports

Location: Bridgeport Boxing Club, Bridgeport

The Art of Boxing will teach teens the ins and outs of the boxing world and provide an introduction to employment opportunities including coaching, timekeeping, management and gym ownership. Teens will be taught the physical and professional aspects of time management and sports instruction.

True Star Editorial – Communications

Location: Morgan Park High School, Morgan Park

Teens will develop their writing, communication, business and basic life skills through the development of a quarterly magazine, a weekly radio show, a daily blog and a mini-magazine. This program teaches literary skills and enhances young journalists’ abilities to analyze major media and social conditions.

New application features include an interactive map to help teens search for programs, a fully responsive mobile functionality, and a full Spanish translation.
