Mujeres is taking part in The New Americans Initiative (NAI) in partnership with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Over 50 organizations are working collectively to provide legal screening, application processing, and English and citizenship test preparation services to immigrants throughout the state of Illinois. During the months of February and March the Citizenship Advocates recruited 256 eligible legal permanent residents, hosted 23 citizenship info sessions, and five volunteer trainings. We trained a total of 46 volunteers to participate in monthly citizenship workshops and a total of 34 to serve as additional outreach volunteers. Our next citizenship workshop is Saturday, May 20, at Instituto del Progerso Latino located at 2520 S. Western Ave., starting at 8:00 am.
