For almost 50 years, the historic Free Street Theater has spent Chicago summers performing free outdoor plays in public spaces. “This is really at the heart of our year-round programming,” says Artistic Director Coya Paz, who notes that the company was founded as a way to bring diverse communities together through theater, and to bring theater to diverse communities. “Since 1969, we’ve operated on the principle that instead of waiting for audiences to come to us, we’ll create shows that come to them.” This summer, Free Street continues this tradition with Los Milagros/The Miracles, a joyful and often funny modern-day pageant wagon play presented in collaboration with The Chicago Park District’s “Night Out in the Parks” program. Los Milagros/The Miracles is suitable for all ages, and presented free to the public. Tickets or RSVP’s are not required.
