As part of the City of Chicago’s effort to modernize and strengthen high schools throughout the city, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Public Schools announced innovative investments in Steinmetz College Preparatory High School, including a partnership with Robert Morris University (RMU) that will bolster postsecondary success and a new state-of-the-art athletic field that will enhance recreational opportunities for Steinmetz students and the entire community. These investments will better prepare Steinmetz students for college success and serve the community for years to come. “The investments at Steinmetz are crucial in ensuring students and families have access to high quality programs that will increase college and career readiness for our graduates,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “This is yet another example of how we can work together to invest in Chicago’s future and provide students with the resources necessary for a brighter future.”
Robert Morris University Partnership
The partnership provides college credit and higher education experiences for Steinmetz students to ensure that Steinmetz students, their families and students from participating elementary schools have a strong foundation for academic and postsecondary readiness. The partnership provides opportunities to earn college credit though dual credit and dual enrollment courses as well as hands-on college readiness experiences to expose students to college life through campus visits, seminars and mentorship programs. The RMU-Steinmetz Partnership has involved over 650 junior and senior students in various activities. Over the course of the school year, students also met with RMU alumni, explored athletic and performing arts opportunities and were assisted in the college application process.
