Alderman Ricardo Muñoz, the senior member of both the City Council Progressive Reform Caucus and the Latino Caucus, officially announced on Monday that he will run for reelection for another term as alderman of the Southwest Side’s 22nd Ward in the February 2019 municipal election. “I am humbled to launch my campaign for reelection so that I can continue to fight for the needs of working families in my community and across Chicago,” said Ald. Muñoz. “As Alderman, I will continue to work to make sure our city is a safe, healthy environment for our kids to thrive in.”
As a leader of the Progressive Caucus and an advocate for independence in City Council, Ald. Muñoz has been an outspoken voice for a $15 minimum wage and to protect workers’ rights in Chicago. He has advocated forcefully for fair taxation that reduces the burden on working families and asks the very wealthy and big corporations to pay their fair share. Ald. Muñoz has also fought for improved police accountability, chairing the Police Accountability Subcommittee that held community hearings across the city in the summer of 2016. He has been a leading voice on the Council for an elected, representative school board, and fought successfully for increased CPS funding for special education staffing. No other challengers have emerged in the race to date.
