Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women says Board Certified Cardiologist from Orland Park Dr. Kathleen Drinan who will speak to “Women and Heart Disease Prevention” at the Annual Convention and Scientific Sessions of the American College of Osteopathic Internists in Florida. One in three women die from Cardiovascular disease, which is more than the numbers of women who die from all cancer related deaths, Drinan says. Drinan will detail the progress she has made during the past 20 years in her own practice in Orland Park, a suburb of Chicago, by treating women earlier and subsequently reducing cardiovascular mortality, and she will present additional information on novel gender specific cardiovascular risks, including pre-eclampsia, vasculitis and cardio oncology. Drinan, who will review the recent history of women and heart disease, and the continued challenge of early identification and treatment of cardiovascular disease in women, will also call for additional research on women with heart disease and increased representation of women in CV research studies.
