The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) announced the exceptional attorneys who have been selected to receive the prestigious “HNBA Top Lawyers Under 40” Award. After a rigorous review process, the Awards Committee selected 36 highly qualified winners from across the country. The “Top Lawyers Under 40” Award honors accomplished lawyers who have demonstrated professional excellence, integrity, leadership, commitment to the Hispanic community, and dedication to improving the legal profession. A few of the honorees included Chicago lawyers:
Barbara R. Barreno-Paschall, Senior Staff Attorney, Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights
Barbara Barreno-Paschall is a Senior Staff Attorney with Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights. She leads the Housing Opportunity Project and represents clients in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Prior to joining the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee, Ms. Barreno-Paschall was an Employment and Labor Associate at Sidley Austin LLP, where she also maintained an active pro bono practice and twice received the firm’s Thomas H. Morsch Award for Pro Bono Achievement for her successful representation of asylum applicants. Ms. Barreno-Paschall is a graduate of Harvard College, Vanderbilt University Law School, where she served as Executive Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review and Chair of the National Latina/o Law Student Association, and the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
Donald E. Goff, Associate, Winston & Strawn LLP
Donald Goff is an associate in the Chicago office of Winston & Strawn LLP and a member of the firm’s Tax Practice. Don represents public and private clients in M&A transactions and has served as tax counsel on transactions exceeding $18 billion in aggregate deal value. Since 2013, Goff has served as a board member of North Side Housing and Supportive Services, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to ending homelessness. Don received his J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and his B.S. and B.A. from the University of Florida.
Elizabeth V. Lopez, Litigation Counsel, United Airlines, Inc.
Elizabeth Lopez is a Litigation Counsel for United Airlines. At United, she supports all areas of the business regarding pre-litigation and litigation advice. Lopez’s practice includes antitrust and class action litigation, unfair competition, complex contract claims and business torts. As a rising future leader, Lopez is one of about 30 employees across the company selected for United’s 2018-19 RISE leadership program, and she is a current Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow. Elizabeth received the 2018 BRAVA Award from Latino Magazine and was named HNBA’s 2017 Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. Lopez received her J.D. from Northwestern University and a B.A., with Honors, and an M.A. from Stanford University
