By an overwhelming margin, SEIU Local 1 Metro security officers who secure downtown’s landmark buildings, ratified a strong new contract for thousands of officers that guarantees the good raises and better benefits they need to support their families. This marks the largest wage increase ever in a Metro security agreement and sets a historic new precedent for the industry. “We work hard to secure Chicago’s iconic landmarks and facilities every day, but often go home struggling to care for our own families,” said SEIU Local 1 Metro Security Officer Michelle Jackson. “Because we fought for our families and our community, we won a better future.” In addition to Metro, SEIU Local 1 security officers who are contracted with BOMA, Hotels, and the state of Illinois have also won significant wage increases and better benefits this summer. SEIU Local 1 will now begin focusing on its contracts with the Railroad Retirement Board and US Post Offices. The new three-year union contract guarantees:

• Annual wage increases of 11.6 percent over three years, which will help Metro security officers support their families and keep up with the cost of living while strengthening their communities;

• Protecting healthcare while costs across the country rise;

• Strengthens standards throughout the city to protect security officer jobs, wages, and benefits.
