Led by middle and high school youth, the Collaborative for Community Wellness and other grassroots organizations in the Treatment Not Trauma campaign, held a rally at the Logan Square Monument last weekend to demand that the City Council and Mayor Lori Lightfoot create the Mental Health Crisis Care and Response System introduced by Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez and stop criminalizing and harming people with mental illness in our communities. Treatment Not Trauma campaign demands:

• Mayor Lightfoot keeps her campaign promise and re-opens the six mental health clinics closed by former Mayor Rahm Emanuel and that she devotes a minimum of her promised $25 million of City funding to the clinics.

• Permanently instate the Mental Health Crisis Care and Response System: The establishment of 24-hour crisis response teams throughout the city of Chicago dispatched through a network of publicly funded mental health facilities. These response teams will be staffed by non-law enforcement clinicians and social workers. These response teams will connect the individual in crisis to a public mental health clinic for robust and holistic follow-up care.
