It seems that we live in a very fractured country. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law legislation that will teach about the history and especially the crimes by Communism in the State of Florida for students in 12th grade. In the case of Florida it makes sense; many of those who live in that state escaped from Communist regimes in Cuba and socialist regimes in Nicaragua and Venezuela. But this is the first and so far the only legislation of its kind in the United States. Part of the reason why this legislation was signed in Florida was because the current governor is a member of the Republican Party. If the governor was a member of the Democratic Party it might not have been signed.
In my view, it should be a no-brainer that the evils of Communism should be taught in all our classrooms just like the Holocaust by the Nazis against the Jews and so many other peoples in World War II is required in all high school classes. This is where the problem comes in. Sadly, in part, the political left has taken over part of the Democratic Party and are pushing their socialist poison. We are seeing this in states dominated mostly run by Democrats. There are colleges and universities where we have Marxist professors and instructors who push a Marxist view of American history and all of the “injustices” and “evils” of capitalism and the “oppression of the White man.” There is no question that there are many dark episodes in U.S. history, and how it has shaped our country. However, Communism is an evil without parallel.
This ideology has killed tens of millions of people on a scale not seen in all of human history. It is a fanaticism and an insane desire which has caused (and is still causing) genocide, war, political and social repression, and the complete annihilation of freedom in every way imaginable to achieve the “utopia.” Back in the 1990’s, both Democrats and Republicans got on board in condemning Communism. Nowadays it seems that the Democratic Party has been hijacked by elements that want Communism just as there are elements in the Republican Party that are hijacking this institution for extreme right wing causes. Both parties are railing against each other and are denouncing one party or the other for an extreme political agenda. This is tearing our country apart, and setting Americans against Americans.
Being lost in all this is fighting an evil force that has darkened our world for decades. Even as I speak now, the Communist Party of China, to celebrate its 100th anniversary of existence, has created a national museum dedicated to its “accomplishments.” Left out of this official history is the Great Leap Forward that killed an estimated 30 to 40 million people, the Great Proletarian Revolution that killed an estimated 6 million people, the Tiananmen Square Massacre that killed an estimated 10,000 people (which I witnessed), the continuing extermination of the Falun Gong that has led to the death of 1.5 million people, and the genocide of the Uyghurs which is happening now. The evil that began in Russia in 1917 is still very much with us, and hence it is more necessary than ever to know what this evil is by teaching it in our schools before we are all brainwashed into believing in bringing about the Communist utopia.
