The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) is continuing its long-standing tradition of supporting summer learning and encouraging excitement in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) outside of classroom with the distribution of 5,000 curiosity kits at 150 locations. Each Curiosity Kit will include four or five curated hands-on activities for children ages 8 to 13, with instructions in English and Spanish, that will encourage them to engage with and explore STEAM content. The first set of kits, “MSI Curiosity Kits: Observation” are designed to encourage scientific observation with observation journals and mindfulness activities. The kits will be available in late June at roughly 150 locations, primarily in the city of Chicago within geographic areas that have been underserved. These locations include all 81 branches of the Chicago Public Library and select Chicago Park District locations. The Park District will also be using these kits in their summer programming. For more information on the kits, including pick-up locations, and ideas for hands-on learning at home, families can contact Rex Babiera at scienceclubs@msichicago.org.
