The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division received a $75,000 grant from the Jewel-Osco Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors Program. The grant will be used to provide breakfast for children in need throughout the summer months. “We’re excited to partner with Jewel-Osco to help our community’s children start their days with a nutritious breakfast,” Salvation Army Chicago Area Commander Major Caleb Senn said. “Together with Jewel-Osco, we’ll continue to tackle the ongoing food insecurity concerns in our community.” Every day, The Salvation Army delivers nutritious food to men, women, and children who are struggling across Illinois. By providing meals to children in Head Start programs, families in shelters, people living on the streets, and struggling neighbors who are unsure of where their next meal will come from, we tackle food insecurity where it’s needed most. “We’re proud to partner with The Salvation Army to address hunger issues,” said Jewel-Osco President Mike Withers. “Nourishing Neighbors, in conjunction with The Salvation Army, continues to work towards helping the most vulnerable in the communities we serve.” Nourishing Neighbors is a charitable program of the Jewel-Osco Foundation. The program aims to eradicate hunger in America by keeping food banks stocked and supporting meal distribution programs at schools. In 2022, along with the Albertsons Companies Foundation, the Company contributed more than $200 million in food and financial support, including over $40 million through our Nourishing Neighbors Program to ensure those living in our communities and those impacted by disasters have enough to eat.
