FAN EXPO Chicago, the region’s longest-running comic and pop culture convention, which ran August 10 – 13, 2023, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, brought together thousands of fans from across the country to celebrate the community of fandom. Highlights included a series of panels celebrating pop culture icons including Mira Sorvino and Susan Sarandon’s first-ever appearances at a convention; Beverly D’Angelo, Christie Brinkley, Anthony Michael Hall, Randy Quaid and Dana Barron; Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Tom Wilson; Kiefer Suthernland and Jason Patric; and Lou Diamond Phillips and Dermot Mulroney; SAG-AFTRA Vice President and renowned actress Michelle Hurd; Chicago’s own breakout star Todd Stashwick; pioneering motion capture performer Andy Serkis; iconic director Sam Raimi; fan favorite Giancarlo Esposito; legendary artist Frank Miller; and classic star Henry Winkler. Events included an authentic Akihabara-style Maid Café, always popular Cosplay Red Carpet, and Tattoo Alley, where visitors could literally show their fandom on their sleeve.
