Chicagoland families are invited to mark the Día de los Muertos holiday at a free and festive, tradition-filled community celebration at Club One of the Union League Boys and Girls Clubs, located at 2157 W. 19th Street in Pilsen, Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 4:30-7pm.  Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is widely observed in Mexico and by Mexicans all over the world November 1 or 2, to honor their ancestors in a joyful rather than mournful manner.  Among the authentic hands-on activities to be offered includes creation of mini-ofrendas (altars) and decoration of colorful sugar skulls, plus crafting paper marigolds (sometimes called Flor de Muerto ‘Flower of Dead’) and sugar skull face painting. Traditional, tasty treats including tamales and Pan de Muerto, the sweet ‘Bread of the Dead,’ will be served. For more information, please visit www.ulbgc.org.
