It makes me sad to see a new and equally bitter cycle of campaign animosity between the two ruling political parties the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Besides the presidential race this year, it seems that the primarily run Republican state of Texas under its Governor Greg Abbott is dumping asylum-seekers from its border into Illinois as a vicious political stunt for leaving these poor people (and yes, these are still people) stranded in a land they do not know and who are in need of all the basics like food, shelter, and help with being able to deal with being in a foreign land. Besides, isn’t the issue of dealing with asylum-seekers in the domain of the federal government?
Why both political parties see each other as the incarnate of the anti-Christ I do not understand. Despite the wide myriad of differences they simply do not agree on, there is one issue they seem to agree on. They are both against Communism. They both agree that it is a foreign totalitarian ideology that wants to enslave the world, and take the United States with it. One tiny example was the sponsorship by two U.S. House of Representatives Mike Gallagher (Republican-Wisconsin) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (Democrat-Illinois) of legislation on how to combat China’s use of its trade and business practices to undermine the United States. Just as equally is the growing discussion in many state governments and in Washington, D.C. of how Communism is a force that is still a threat against the United States force that still represses those people under its control as well as being a threat to America.
This can be seen in countries like China, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba which are still ruled by Communist parties. Then there is Venezuela, which is ruled by a hardcore socialist government and has become a failed nation state. This, along with Cuba, is where a lot of the asylum-seekers are coming from. In their countries of origin, they have a poor quality of life, they have no freedom of speech, movement or religion. They have no legal protections, no independent judicial system, and all laws are rubber-stamped by legislatures and executives run by their Communist/Socialist parties. In Cuba and Venezuela alone, they have constant supply shortages. One example that I know of personally is aspirin. In these two countries, aspirin is not easily available. From Canada to the United States and Mexico, aspirin is easily available and is the most available medicine.
But Communism not only poorly provides for people under its control; it tries to destroy those not under its control. According to the organization Victims of Communism, Chinese agents have worked with right-wing parties and organizations to undermine the political systems in their countries of origin in the European Union. These Chinese agents provide cash to political leaders and business people to try and persuade them to undermine the economic and political policies of various countries in the European Union in the hope of gaining more favorable outcomes for China. This is also an effort to bring in undemocratic forces within these countries to further undermine their political, economic, social and governmental institutions. The result? Help create undemocratic countries that may align with China.
We should also consider the wars and conflicts that are still happening around our world. From the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the threatened invasion of Taiwan by China to the conflict still locked in an uneasy peace between North Korea and South Korea, these are all the legacies of Communism that still remain unresolved. And they will remain unresolved as long as Communism exists. It is this threat that thankfully a growing number of Republicans and Democrats recognize is a life and death issue for themselves, America and the American people.
Something Democrats and Republicans Can Agree Upon
