In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, ComEd hosted its annual STEM Labs event with high school students from across Northern Illinois. Each student built their own small robot and worked closely with ComEd mentors and executives to learn computer coding skills and test drive them through mini obstacle courses. Students had the chance to bond with peers and learn about the different careers in STEM. The high school students were also given a $250 dollar scholarship for their participation. Hispanic Americans make up 17 percent of the U.S. workforce, but only fill eight percent of the STEM workforce. This STEM Lab event, and other COMED STEM events, are designed to engage the next generation of STEM talent and help ensure the future of STEM is diverse.
