ComEd is reminding folks of the new, free job training programs that are available in the new year. Just last year, ComEd’s new training programs collectively reached 1,200 people across Northern Illinois with 2025 programs starting as early as January 22nd. Programs offering training programs in 2025 include:
• CONSTRUCT Infrastructure Academy: ComEd’s flagship job training program with a more than 70 percent job placement rate, the 11-week training program upskills participants with classroom learning on basic electrical knowledge, industry certifications, and the physical aptitude needed to fulfill duties in the field. Next year’s cohort will begin on January 22.
• MDI (Market Development Initiative): Consists of two cohorts: the Newcomer Cohort and the Skilled Cohort. The Newcomer Cohort is an opportunity for people brand-new to the industry to learn the basics of HVAC, insulation, and other energy efficiency tactics while getting connected to potential employers. While the Skilled Cohort welcomes seasoned professionals and small business owners looking to gain advanced training, certifications, and other business support. The Newcomer Cohort will begin on January 29.
• Craft Academy: Prepares local jobseekers for entry-level craft roles in the construction and utility fields, like Construction Worker and Overhead Helper positions. Participants receive a crash course on electrical and construction work, with a special focus on the physical training required to succeed in these roles, such as pole climbing. Next year’s cohort will begin in March 2025.
