The holiday spirit was in full swing on Saturday, December 21, as the Town of Cicero hosted its annual “Shop with a Cop” event at Walmart. Local police officers partnered with children from the community to make their holiday wishes come true. Officers and children began the day by sharing breakfast together, allowing time to chat and get to know one another. This was followed by a collaborative shopping experience where officers helped children select items on their wish lists. These activities were designed to foster connections, strengthen trust, and create unforgettable memories, highlighting the value of positive community-police relationships. Each child was paired with a police officer and given a Walmart gift card to shop for items they needed or wanted. The event was about more than just gifts; it was an opportunity to build positive relationships between children and law enforcement. Community sponsors, including ExxonMobil, Alden Manor, AB Current Technologies, McDonald’s, and MFS Financial, also contributed significantly to the event’s success. Part of the program includes surprising some shoppers by paying for their bill—the Town of Cicero was able to bless two shoppers this year. The event concluded with families, officers, and Santa gathering for a grand photo, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
