Chicago Commons celebrated the achievements of students in its Early Education programs by bringing together community partners, staff, families, students and members of the Humboldt Park community for games and activities. The event took place at Nia Family Center in Humboldt Park, to highlight Chicago Commons’ commitment to high-quality early learning programs, engaged families and acknowledged the achievements of its students. Peoples Gas partnered with Chicago Commons to distribute backpacks and school supplies to support the continued success of nearly 100 graduating students (15 at the Nia Family Center), many of whom come from underserved communities and families in need. The Jessie White Tumblers gave an incredible performance and Erie Family Health Center administered FREE COVID-19 vaccines to families and children 6 months and older. Ebony Westbrooks, Director of Nia Family Center, provided the opening remarks, kicking off the celebration. Larry Szumski, Vice President of Peoples Gas, described the Peoples Gas Backpack program and the organization’s long-standing partnership with Chicago Commons. Testimonials were given by parents and students regarding their experience with Chicago Commons’ early education program at Nia Family Center. “On behalf of Chicago Commons, we thank Peoples Gas and our community partners for their commitment and support of our mission to empower children and families with high-quality early education and opportunities to thrive across generations,” said Chicago Commons President and CEO Edgar Ramirez. “We wish all of our graduating students great success.” Chicago Commons End-of-Year Celebration took place at the Nia Family Center.
