Popcorn Lovers Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with a homemade batch of perfectly popped popcorn? Making popcorn at home can be a daunting task, but with a few tips, it’s easy to create the perfect bowl of fluffy, buttery goodness that’s sure to please the whole family.
To get started, you’ll need a few key ingredients: 3 tablespoons of coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil, 1/3 cup of high-quality popcorn kernels, 1 tablespoon of butter (optional), salt to taste, and Tajin Mild Hot Sauce as a topping for a unique flavor made with 100% natural chilies, lime juice and sea salt.
Begin by heating the oil in a thick-bottomed saucepan on medium-high heat. If using coconut oil, wait until it has completely melted. Once heated, add 4 or 5 popcorn kernels to the oil and wait for them to pop.
Next, add the remaining kernels in an even layer, cover the pot, and remove it from the heat for 30 seconds. This allows all of the kernels to come to a near-popping temperature, so they all pop at about the same time when put back on the heat.
After 30 seconds, return the pan to the heat, and the popcorn should begin popping soon. Once the popping starts, gently shake the pan back and forth over the burner until the popping slows to several seconds between pops.
Remove the pan from the heat, remove the lid, and immediately pour the popcorn into a wide bowl. If using butter, melt it in the now-empty hot pan and pour it over the popcorn. Sprinkle with salt to taste, and finish off with a drizzle of Tajin Mild Hot Sauce for a unique kick.
Finally, sit back, relax, and enjoy your perfectly popped popcorn while watching a movie the whole family will love. The Academy Award-nominated film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, is now available digitally on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD, making it the perfect addition to your family movie night.
