On Tuesday, ComEd and Millennium Garages, the largest downtown public underground parking system in North America, unveiled a significant expansion of its downtown Chicago electric vehicle (EV) charging, with 100 EV chargers now installed and plans to expand to 300 EV chargers by 2026. This expansive EV charging installation in Millennium Garages makes it the largest public EV charging hub in the Midwest, made possible through collaboration between business and utility leaders to accelerate the transition to cleaner transportation. A $200,000 energy efficiency incentive from ComEd supported Millennium Garages in lowering its energy usage, reducing carbon emissions, and freeing up electrical capacity for cleaner, all-electric vehicles. Expanded EV charging capacity supports the state’s goal of adding 1 million EVs to roads by 2030, helping lower pollution and enhance air quality across Illinois communities. Reducing barriers to EV adoption – including charging access – is prioritized in ComEd’s $231 investment in electrification announced earlier this year.
