Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is proud to announce that 83 CPS students, from both District-managed and Charter high schools, will be awarded more than $18 million in full‐tuition leadership scholarships from the Posse Foundation. “I am incredibly proud of this year’s class of Posse Scholars,” said CPS CEO Pedro Martinez. “I want to extend congratulations to our District’s Posse Scholars for their hard work and achievement. It is great to see our District so well-represented within this excellent program.” The Posse Foundation, established in 1989, identifies, recruits, and trains students nationally from local public high schools and sends them in multicultural teams — posses — of 10 students to colleges and universities across the country. Award recipients have collectively won close to $2 billion in full‐tuition merit scholarships from Posse partner schools. Of the 104 Chicago-area students awarded scholarships, dubbed “Posse Scholars,” 83 attend District-managed or charter high schools while the remainder attend local private or suburban schools. Posse scholars earn scholarships based on student leadership abilities, work in team settings, and a desire to succeed, among other criteria. “For 23 years, Posse has been recruiting stellar students who have demonstrated leadership from the Chicago Public Schools,” said Posse Foundation President and Founder Deborah Bial. “We are very proud of our relationship with CPS and thankful to the District for nominating such wonderful young people each year. I congratulate all the new Chicago Posse Scholars.” For the list of Posse Scholars, visit www.cps.edu.
