A good friend of mine got very disappointing news; the Affordable Connectivity Program will come to an end in May. This program has helped tens of millions of low-income and elderly Americans be able to afford internet and telephone service so they can be connected to the rest of the country. But because the Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have refused to provide money for this important program, the program looks like it will end forever. This will mean that this program will end, and with it so many low income and elderly Americans may be cut-off from internet and phone access they desperately need because they will not be able to afford it.
It is not just my opinion; every political expert has stated that this U.S. Congress has been the least productive in U.S. history. Vital programs that should have been passed have not. Deals to help Ukraine and Taiwan are at a standstill. And without question the culprits in all of this are the Republicans. Their antics, political back-stabbing and complete obstruction of any and all legislation has taken a toll on what vital legislation should have been passed that affects not only tens of millions of Americans, but also the very destiny of this country and other parts of the world. And it all seems to stem from two very serious sources—those die-hard extreme right wing Republicans who have put ideology before country, and former president Donald Trump himself. He told the Republicans to not pass legislation, and sadly they have too readily complied.
The result is the wrecking of the machinery of government. No matter what part of the political isle many Americans may be on, almost all political experts agree that these calculated moves by the Republicans to bring down the Democrats and with it the nation are designed to make the Democrats look like they are the ones wrecking the country. In truth, the majority of not only Democrat-affiliated Americans but also independent voters are seeing the Republicans as the ones who are making a mess of it. Yet despite this, the House Republicans do not seem to be changing their ways. They are wrecking the machinery of government to bring down the Democrats and bring their favorite candidate Donald Trump back to power.
It may have the opposite effect. Recently, a former high official in the former Trump administration, Peter Navarro, was sent to a federal prison for refusing to comply with a Congressional subpoena to testify for his role in the January 6, 2021 insurrection against the official certification of the U.S. presidential election of 2020. He is now in a federal prison where he will be for four months (in my view, it should have been at least four years or forty years for an attempt to overthrow the government). Even then, Navarro tried to weasel his way out of this by trying to make an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Despite the right wing bent of this high body, the court fortunately did not grant this emergency request and Navarro will now serve less time in prison than many people will serve on federal jury duty. These facts are immutable. It all shows that the Republican Party is being led by a man and a group of people who believe they are above the law, and that they can say or do anything in the name of “serving the country” to do every dirty and despicable thing imaginable. For all voters, I want all of this to sink in when you vote in the upcoming elections.
The Congressional Republicans and Peter Navarro
