The Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago is delighted to announce Mexico Week in Chicago 2024, an annual celebration of Mexican culture and the contributions of our community in Illinois, centered around the festivities of Cinco de Mayo. Its third edition will feature the states of Chihuahua, Nayarit and Querétaro, along with the City of Durango. From May 3rd to 12th, people across the city will be able to enjoy cultural and gastronomic experiences, including: 

“Best of Mexico” Restaurant Route. Indulge in the best dishes of Mexico without leaving Chicago! Embark on a culinary journey through this gastronomic route, featuring over 15 restaurants, including Carnitas Uruapan, 5 Rabanitos, Tzuco and La Catedral Café. Each establishment will offer a taste of the diverse and vibrant cuisine from different states across Mexico. May 3-12, 2024.

Mexico Fest. A three-day event featuring an artisan market with over 30 vendors showcasing handicrafts, jewelry, textiles and ceramics from indigenous communities such as the Otomí, Rarámuri and Huichol. There will be art workshops for children and live traditional music and dance performances, including a show by Caballo Dorado. May 3-5, 2024, Navy Pier. Free admission. Opening ceremony: May 3rd, 2024 at 4 p.m.

Family Day | Migration Stories. Children will have the opportunity to participate in the art workshop “Tell me about your wings,” which commemorates the sculpture of the Wings of Mexico by artist Jorge Marín. This sculpture was brought to Chicago for the first edition of Mexico Week in 2022. Additionally, there will be free screenings of the captivating animated documentary on immigration Home is Somewhere Else, directed by Carlos Hagerman and Jorge Villalobos. The film was acclaimed by director Alejandro González Iñárritu as a portrayal that “draws, in a simple and beautiful way, the complex reality of millions of people.” May 11, 2024, at the MCA Chicago. Free admission.
