Sinai Urban Health Institute is now a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program Sponsor making Sinai Chicago the first healthcare system in the State of Illinois to lead and sponsor employment and training opportunities for Community Health Workers (CHWs).  CHWs provide culturally sensitive care, promote health literacy, and advocate for preventive measures. Their efforts ensure historically under-resourced populations receive the support and information needed to manage their health, enhancing overall community well-being, and reducing health disparities.  The program consists of 2000 hours of training, including 206 hours of related instruction.  It includes two school semesters, 40 hours of paid work experience, 4 to 7 industry credentials, and the option to choose two specialty (CHW) trainings. Participants receive CHW core skills training, specialty credentials, and financial stipends upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and at least one wage increase before the end of the program year.  The program is set to start in September 2024.
