Chicago Park District’s Cherry Tree Blossoms at Jackson Park Are Blooming

Lawndale News Chicago's Bilingual Newspaper - Local News

Twenty new cherry blossom trees have been planted at Jackson Park since the last full bloom in 2020.  Due to the relatively minor spring fluctuations in weather and temperature, we’re looking forward to a robust bloom of the Cherry Blossoms in April this year. A majority of the trees have moved to bud Stage 4, and will soon be transitioning to bud stage 5. After 4 years of deterred blooms, the Chicago Park District is excited to celebrate the blooming of more than 190 cherry trees, located along the Columbia Basin in Jackson Park, will reach peak bloom in 2025. Near 6401 S. Stony Island Ave., east side of Cornell Ave., located just south of Museum of Science and Industry. Current Status: (updated April 15, 2025)

• Our oldest “mother tree” is at STAGE 5-6

• Most of the other trees are at STAGE 4 approaching STAGE 5

• Many of the white flower trees are still in STAGE 2-3

Visitors will enjoy a self-guided listening tour of the grove. Guests will use their own phones at four (4) listening stations, where they are encouraged to scan a QR code to access a brief audio vignette about the history of the tree grove, the variety of flowers, and the Japanese springtime traditions. For best viewing options, the Chicago Park District recommends visiting the Cherry Blossom Grove during times with smaller crowds, which include weekday mornings, and early afternoons.
