Leaders of many Southwest side institutions held a reception for area state legislators to express appreciation for advocacy work done on behalf of underserved area communities. Issues included legislation to support health and human services, home foreclosure assistance, violence prevention, fair immigration policy and quality education.
“During this time of state budget crisis, many of our local state senators and state representatives fought very hard to support families in our communities that are suffering greatly,” said Jeff Bartow, Executive Director of Southwest Organizing Project. State Senator Jackie Collins, State Senator Mattie Hunter, State Representative Esther Golar, State Representative Mary Flowers and State Representative Dan Burke were honored for their strong leadership and public service.
“These are very difficult times with many families and institutions struggling to do their best,” said Wayne Lerner, D.P.H., F.A.C.H.E., President and CEO, Holy Cross Hospital “Our communities are very grateful for the dedication and commitment of these state legislators.”
