State Senator Martin Sandoval seeks to attract top Latino medical students to work in Chicago neighborhoods

Senator Sandoval and representatives from St. Anthony hospital recently hosted a delegation of medical students from National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Pilsen.

This cultural exchange was founded through UNAM’s “School for Foreigners” (CEPE) a program in 2001 and supports a mission of academic and cultural understanding between Mexico and the United States.

Senator Sandoval proposed to the university students that they expand their horizons and after graduation, pursue a medical career in the United States, particularly in Chicago.

“There is a huge demand for doctors,” Sandoval said. “Our community is growing rapidly and now more than ever we need more Latino physicians.”

Senator Sandoval serves the 11th legislative district west of Chicago which represents the neighborhoods of Brighton Park, Clearing, Gage Park, Garfield Ridge, Little Village, West Lawn and municipalities West Cook County: Bedford Park, Burbank, Cicero, Forest View, Lyons, McCook, Stickney, Summit and Riverside.
