The ENLIST Act is a piece of legislation that would grant young undocumented individuals a path to becoming legal permanent residents and eventually U.S. citizens if they serve in the U.S. military. This piece of legislation will help young people not only serve America but also become eventually citizens. But it does not look like that this legislation will see the light of day.

Extreme rightwingers and the Tea Party seem to be dead set against this legislation. Why? These young people had no say in coming to the United States. They were brought by their parents to this country whether they wanted to come here or not. Many of them did not even know they were undocumented until later in life when they tried to apply for college, join the U.S. military, or find a job. If some of these undocumented young people want to join the U.S. military, then they should be allowed to do so and be given a chance to apply for legal permanent residency and eventually U.S. citizenship.

Afterall, these kids are putting their lives on the line for this country and they are willing to fight and defend the United States. Don’t they deserve something in return for trying to do all they can to try and give back to this country?! Apparently, to the extreme fascists in the Tea Party, the Heritage Foundation and other crazy so-called “conservative” groups, the status of these young undocumented people is set in stone and should never be changed. These loonies have no problem throwing away what could be some of the best and brightest kids this country will need.

In fact, these rightwing loonies would love to throw out millions of these kids and not give them any chances to prove themselves. These kids did not come here of their free will, and their status is in legal limbo. What good is this to America? If there are those willing to serve in the U.S. military to prove themselves, then they should get that chance.
