More than 150 guests attended the Ozzie Guillen Foundation benefit in which all funds raised went directly to Children’s Oncology Services Inc., a local non-profit that provides free support programs for the children and families affected by cancer. Ozzie Guillen, the first and only Latino manager to win an MLB World Series Championship, was in attendance along with his family. “I want to help,” said Ozzie. “If there is anything that can be done to ease the suffering of someone else or a group of people, I’m going to do it,” he concluded.
The OGF is in its 16th year and primarily operates out of Guillen’s homeland of Venezuela. This year Guillen decided to partner with organization local to his second home of Chicago. About $15,000 was raised through a silent auction that included autographed items by Miguel Cabrera, Matt Kemp and Jose Abreu; a golf outing with Ozzie and a rock, paper, scissors, tournament. The event was attended by media personalities from 1035 KissFM (Nina Chantele and Jordan Gorman), B96, Univision (Tsi-si-ki and Aileen) as well as businesses execs and young professionals.
