State Senator William Delgado (D-Chicago) joined area residents at Chicago’s Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC) as they register for health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act on Monday, Jan. 19th.
“I’m proud to come out and support the great work that they do here,” Delgado said. “It’s vital that everyone has access to basic health care in our society.” The event, which was free to the public, took place on Monday and began with an open mic slam at 5p.m. Registration followed at 6p.m. All necessary support staff was on hand to help guide people through the registration process. Under the Affordable Care Act, citizens have until February 15 to enroll in a health insurance plan if they wish to avoid paying a penalty.
SRBCC is the longest standing Puerto Rican cultural center in Chicago. Its mission is to preserve and promote appreciation of the culture and arts of Puerto Rico, specifically its African heritage.
