On Saturday, Jan. 31st, high school students from Youth Crossroads, along with Get Covered America, Berwyn Mayor Lovero, and Alderman Cesar Santoy, will encourage residents of Berwyn, Cicero, and Chicago’s West Side to attend a large scale enrollment event and community health fair on January 31 from 10 a.m., to 4p.m., at the Christian Life Center in Berwyn. The event is being held just 15 days before the February 15 deadline to enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace.

For the past four months, the students from Youth Crossroads have partnered with Get Covered America in a Student Engagement Program, where they’ve learned to perform outreach in their communities to make sure residents are armed with the information they need to enroll in the Marketplace. Following a series of volunteer training sessions, the students now come together every week to make hundreds of phone calls, knock on doors, and do outreach in their churches and schools to inform their communities about the Affordable Care Act.

The deadline to enroll in the health insurance marketplace is February 15, 2015. Those who choose to go without health insurance will face paying a fine of $325 or two percent of the household income, whichever is higher. People seeking to get enrolled before the deadline are strongly encouraged to attend the Saturday, January 31 enrollment event, or visit www.getcoveredamerica.org/connector to find free in-person help in their area.
