The Berwyn Development Corporation’s (BDC) second Berwyn’s Best competition began in January and was fixed on finding the best local slice of pizza. Paisans Pizzeria & Bar (6226 W Ogden Ave) walked home a winner with its signature supreme pizza. The dish starts with a thin crust covered in sweet tomato sauce and is filled with sausage, onions, mushrooms and green peppers. It is then topped with a shredded in-house blend of premium mozzarella cheeses and pepperoni. Pizza dough and sauce are made daily from scratch.

Paisans Pizzeria & Bar went up against other local favorites Waldo Cooney’s Pizza, Bubba’s Place, Benny’s Pizza and Nonno’s Pizza. The final competition brought together a group of local judges for a blind taste-test event to compare each specialty pizza slice side-by-side based on flavor, texture and presentation. The event took place at the Berwyn Park District’s Liberty Cultural Center where each pizza was served by unaffiliated attendants. “Berwyn’s Best” is a promotional program managed by the BDC.
