J. Sterling Morton High School District 201 has been awarded the 2015 Certificate of Excellence Award in Financial Reporting (COE). The Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International honored the school district because it has met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. Morton provided accurate and detailed information about various funds and their use. It’s the 21st year Morton participates in the COE program—a true reflection of its commitment to fiscal integrity, according to ASBO officials. The Morton Board of Education President Jeff Pesek is proud the association nationally recognizes the district for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2015.
“The Board of Education and I are very proud of Morton for many reasons,” Pesek said. “The Certificate of Excellence Award demonstrates to the community that our school district is credible and dedicated to fiscal integrity and excellence.” The COE award confirms the school business office’s commitment to financial accountability and transparency. Recognition through the COE program can help strengthen a district’s presentation for bond issuance statements and promotes a high level of financial reporting. “While other school districts have experienced financial crises, Morton has managed to increase positive prospects with a balanced budget,” said the Superintendent Dr. Mike Kuzniewski.
