Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios has announced his office will host a Veterans Property Tax Exemption Seminar with Senator Michael Hastings and Director of Cook County Veterans Affairs Bill Brown to help veterans with the exemption process. The Veterans Exemption Seminar will be held on Thursday, February 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. at VFW Post 311 located at 22341 Governors Highway in Richton Park. Assessor Berrios, Senator Hastings, Director Bill Brown and staff will be on hand to assist veterans in completing their Disabled Veterans Exemption applications or assist with the application process for any other exemption(s) to which they may be entitled. Renewal applications for the Disabled Veterans Exemption were recently mailed to those who received the exemption last year. First time applicants can download the application by visiting this link on the Assessor’s web site: http://sub.cookcountyassessor.com/assets/forms/DisabledVeteransEx.pdf. Or by calling the office at 312-443-7550 and requesting an application be mailed to them. It is important to note that the Disabled Veterans Exemption must be applied for annually. The deadline for the exemption application is March 7th.
