The Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee and Casa Puertorriqueña announced on Thursday, May 24th the return of their traditional (and original) parade to downtown Chicago. The 49th edition of the Chicago Puerto Rican Day Parade will be held Saturday, June 16th at 11:30 am. The Parade will take place on Columbus Drive from Balbo Drive to Monroe Street. The Puerto Rican Day Parade was last held in downtown in 2012; in 2013, the Puerto Rican Day Parade merged with Humboldt Park’s Puerto Rican People’s Day Parade in order to reduce costs. The Committee also announced the headliners for their 36thAnnual Fiestas Puertorriqueñas (Puerto Rican Festivities), the centerpiece of their annual celebration, which will be held on the family friendly grounds of Humboldt Park, corners of California and Division, to be held from Thursday, June 14th through Sunday, June 17th. This year’s lineup will offer once again music fans a savvy blend of urban and tropical sounds, of old favorites from the island and local acts. Hours for the Fiestas Puertorriqueñas are: Thursday and Friday, 3-10 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 12-10 pm. Admission is: General, $2; kids free under 12 this year. Part of the funds raised will go to the hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico. For more information, visit Thepuertoricanfestival.com.
