Communities in Schools (CIS) of Chicago, the largest non-profit organization in Chicago dedicated to increasing high school graduation rates and preventing dropout, will continue to provide a range of essential supports to Chicago students and families as the 2020-21 academic year begins.  CIS of Chicago will work closely with principals, teachers and other school and community leaders to ensure that students and their families receive the range of supports they need to stay safe and engaged in learning throughout 2020-21. CIS of Chicago will carry out this work whether students are in school or participating in remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

For the year, CIS of Chicago will help 58,000 CPS students stay on the path to graduation. Students will benefit from a range of essential programs and services – delivered both on line and in person – that will enrich their lives and build their social and emotional resiliency. CIS of Chicago will also benefit with many community partners to provide essential needs items like food and clothing to students and families that need those resources. In addition, CIS of Chicago will directly provide more than 1,300 targeted CPS students in grades K-12 with one-on-one support like counseling and life skills instruction from the organization’s youth development experts embedded in 30 different CPS school communities.
