The Humboldt Park community will soon welcome a new business program designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners succeed. ¡Wepa! Mercado del Pueblo, is an incubator and shared market space created to support small businesses by covering their overhead costs, like rent and utilities and provide business advising and guidance to help them grow. This small business community business model was developed by the Humboldt Park based grassroots organization (The Puerto Rican Cultural Center) in response to the needs they saw in their community that has been hit hard by COVID-19. The new incubator program is partly due with the help of SBDC (Small Business Development Center), NBDC (Neighborhood Business Development Center) and the new BRC (Business Regional Center). The Puerto Rican Cultural Center was able to create ¡WEPA! Mercado del Pueblo, which is a weekly, socially distanced market where small businesses can sell their products rent and utilities free, and receive professional business advising and guidance. The Mercado is open every Friday from 4pm to 8pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30am to 5pm.
